Schiller Park Senior Session | Columbus, Ohio Senior Pictures

I'm so excited to introduce Abbey! Abbey is a part of my spokesmodel team for the Class of 2019! She is a competitive dancer and specializes in lyrical, contemporary, jazz, hip hop, ballet, and pointe. She is also a cheerleader for the variety football team at her high school!

For her first session we shot at Schiller Park in German Village. I can't wait for our next shoot!

Ballet Session with Gillian C | Columbus, Ohio Senior Photographer

I've been loving working with dancers lately! Last week I had the pleasure of working with Gillian! We did her shoot in Downtown Columbus and wanted to do a red, white and blue concept. Here are a few from Gillian's session along with her favorite quote.

Ballet Session with Ava G | Columbus Ohio Senior Pictures

I had so much fun photographing Ava this past weekend. Her passion for dance was evident from the moment I met her. I love these photos in black & white! Here are a few images from her session, along with her favorite quotes from someone that she looks up to in the ballet world.

I'm currently booking Class of 2019 for summer and fall dates. If you're interested in booking a session contact me so we can get you scheduled! Sessions are limited so don't wait!

Yellow Styled Session with Anna

I've been wanting to do more studio portraits. So I teamed up with Anna and Hanna again for a fun summer session! The theme for the shoot was yellow. Anna selected several cute outfits from Forever 21 for the session.

For hair and makeup, I wanted something bold and fun. We went with yellow and orange tones for the eyes and a nude lip. For the hair we did Micky Mouse buns with loose curls!

My Shoot and Share Contest Results & What's Next!

This year I entered 15 photos into the Shoot and Share contest for the first time. The Shoot and Share contest is an annual contest where anyone can enter and vote, also its completely free. You can enter up to 50 photos in 25 categories. You won't know who took the photos until after voting ends.

Since this was my first year entering, I didn't know what to expect. So I only enter 15 images into the Teens & Senior category. Next year I will enter 50 images and spread it across several of the categories.

This year there were over 1.1 million photos submitted overall and 29,460 in the teens & senior category. I was very excited to learn that 2 of my photos placed in the Top 20% and another in the Top 30%.

Styled Session - Anna's Winter Wonderland

Earlier this week I had the pleasure of working with the lovely Anna again for a winter snow inspired session! I had never really done a styled session outside of workshops that I've attended & was really excited to try something new and different. I knew Anna would be the perfect person for this! Here are Anna's favorite images from her session!

2018 Words of the Year | Columbus Ohio Senior Photographer

Happy New Year! 2018 is officially here and I'm really excited to see what God has in store for me this year! 2017 was full of so many blessings both personal and business wise. I want to start this year off right so I set a few goals for my business and also decided to add a few words to live by! I narrowed it down to 4 words that I want to focus on throughout the year!

quote: done is better than perfect

1. DONE!

One thing that I struggle with is procrastination. I will put things off and end up not following through. I believe this is because I want things to be perfect, which hurts me more than it helps me, especially in business. So this year I'm going to get things DONE, even if it's not exactly what I envisioned.

2. Intentional

I want everything I do this year in my business to be done with purpose. From social media post to senior sessions. One thing I want to do more of this year is styled sessions. I want each styled session to have a purpose and not be something that I just threw together. I want to challenge myself to be more creative and open to new experiences.

quote: once you become fearless, life becomes limitless.

3. Fearless

I am launching my senior model program this month. This is something that I have been on the fence about since starting my business. I decided to give it a try and I feel like it's better to try and fail then to not try at all. I also want to submit more of my work for publication. One thing that I've been afraid to enter is the Senior Style Guide's Hot 100. This is a list of some of the best senior photographers from all over the country. Every year I make up an excuse not to enter so this year I am going to enter no matter what!

4. Content

I know this is something all women do. We love to compare ourselves, our businesses, our relationships, the list goes on! So this year I want to be content with where I am in my senior photography business and in life. I will continue to strive and grow, but I will be more grateful for the portion God has already given me.

The Roosevelt Coffeehouse Session | 2019 Senior Kenzi K.

Over the weekend I had the pleasure of working with Kenzi a 2019 senior from Reynoldsburg High School for a fun photoshoot at a local coffee shop here in Columbus. I had never been to The Roosevelt Coffeehouse but had seen that a lot of people go there to work, hangout & study. I also love that they are supporting the efforts to help those who are affected by unclean water, hunger and human trafficking.

There were a few things I noticed during my time there. First it was PACKED! I didn't take into consideration that it was finals week & there are two local colleges in the area. Even though it was crowded we were still able to find a table & even got a window seat soon after to take some cool shots. Second the staff was AMAZING! I had contacted someone from their Instagram a few days before to get permission to take pictures there. They were so friendly and welcoming. Ordering was fast and easy! I will definitely be going back soon for hot chocolate since I'm not a coffee drinker.

We started Kenzi's shoot in the coffeehouse and finished outside. I'd been wanting to try shooting through a window for a while so I'm glad I got the opportunity to do so. Next time I will try to time it so there are no cars parked in front, but I am pleased with the results.

We decided to try an impromptu Ugly Location Challenge. I definitely want to try this again with a senior model! It was a lot of fun and challenged me to be creative and look at things differently.

Meliah Fall Mini Session | Columbus Ohio Senior Photographer

Jeffrey Park Mansion | Fall Mini Session

I recently had the pleasure of working with Meliah for a quick fall mini session at Jeffrey Park Mansion in Bexley, Ohio.

For this session we went with fall colors and clothing. I really wanted this session to embody fall and I couldn't be more pleased with the final images. Meliah has great style and is a natural in front of the camera!

Here are a few of my favorite pictures from her session!

5 Gift Ideas Under $25

I can't believe Thanksgiving is next week! Which mean Christmas is just around the corner. It's time to start thinking about what to get your friends and family. Since money doesn't fall from the sky, I put together a list of 5 gift ideas that are all under $25! It's perfect for the high schooler or college student on a budget!

Candles are a great affordable gift to give anyone. These candles will have your house, room or dorm smelling so amazing. Some great scents that I recommend that everyone would enjoys are vanilla, cinnamon and peppermint. These are also great for the holiday season.

This holiday tin can candle is so cute and perfect for the artist type!

One thing that I struggle with in the winter season is cold feet! (I really need to see a doctor about it because it's probably a deficiency). SOCKS! I don't know about you but I love a pair of warm comfortable fuzzy socks. Some people might think that it's a lame or cheap gift but if they're cute and keep my feet warm, I really don't care how much it cost. Plus who doesn't need socks in the winter? Slippers can also be a great gift!

Skin & Beauty

Skin care is something that I love talking about! I think it's so important to take care of your skin, which can be hard as a teen. I'm really a natural skin care person (5 Natural Products for Clear Skin) but I understand that it doesn't work for everyone. So I did a little research and found some awesome products that are affordable and great for everyone!

Perfect for seniors to prepare for big events like homecoming, prom and of course senior pictures! I know I don't have funds to get a facial often so this is a perfect alternative.

It is so important to exfoliate your skin (not just your face). These exfoliating sugar cubes come in 3 different scents!

Fun & Useful

It's always a good idea to get someone something that they can actually use. Anyone else hate getting gifts that they will NEVER use? Remember those knockoff Bath and Body Works gift sets that smelled horrible? Yeah no one wants those!

Photography Related

Of course I couldn't write a post about affordable gifts without including photography gifts! As a photographer I'm all about having something tangible to offer my senior clients. Here are some cute gifts you can give your best friend(s), family or significant other.

The Truth About Stepping Out of Your Comfort Zone

Columbus Editorial Society Event (CES) | Columbus Ohio Senior Photographer

Back in October I went to my first Columbus Editorial Society event. I had been a member since July but hadn't gone to any of the many events they have each month. I'm an introvert and tend to shy away from group activities, but that is something I want to change in 2018! I'm so glad that one of the founders reached out to me asking if I wanted to attend their 24k Magic event. I'm also glad I decided to step out of my introvert comfort zone and go! The event was AMAZING!

The models were welcoming and very professional. They are definitely people who are passionate about their careers and are working very hard to build their portfolios in order to reach their goals. I can't wait to work with them again!

Now for the other photographers in the group...where do I start? Have you ever met photographers who are only focused on their work and not willing to help the next person trying to learn and grow? Well you won't meet them here. The photographers are EXTREMELY helpful and willing to share what they know with others. Being a natural light photographer, I know very little about studio lighting. I was able to take a few shots using my off camera flash equipment that I barely touch, with the help of another photographer (Thanks Tiffany)!

If you are in the Columbus, Ohio area & want to be a part of this amazing society you can find more information by visiting their website, Columbus Editorial Society. FYI: You don't have to be from the Columbus area, there are members from all over Ohio and the surrounding areas. You can also attend events and rent the photography studio without being a member as well.

Most of the photos were shot using a continuous ring light which I LOVE! I hope to offer studio sessions for my senior clients next year!

So here are a few images from this event.

Senior Session Anjali P.

Franklin Park Conservatory | Columbus Park of Roses Fall Senior Session

This past week has been filled with non-stop editing. I'll be sharing some amazing photos I took at a local event sometime in the next few weeks. But today I'm sharing some of Anjali's favorite pictures from her senior session. We started her session at Franklin Park Conservatory, which is my favorite park here in Columbus, it's extremely versatile and it is perfect for when the weather starts getting too cold to shoot outside. Then we headed to Columbus Park of Roses in north Columbus.

Anjali selected three awesome outfits for her senior session. We decided to go with a natural look for her makeup & curls for her hair. I had so much fun shooting this session!
